On April 17th and 19th, 2023, the second German-Korean research workshop, between the two international sister projects PoQsiKom and IPSecICS, was held in Germany. The PoQsiKom project partners: Fraunhofer AISEC, Siemens AG, and TRUMPF met with the IPSecICS project partners: Korea University, WAEM, DreamSecurity, CoreSecurity, and the Smart Manufacturing Research Association (SMRA) at the Hannover Messe, Hannover and at TRUMPF, Ditzingen.

The meeting at the Hannover Messe began with a workshop, where the two sister projects first exchanged their project status updates and discussed the integration of the Korean Crypto Module into the German remote acknowledgement demonstrator. The discussion was held on a technical level and next steps for the integration of the Korean Crypto Module into the demonstrator from the German partners was discussed.

After a short lunch break, the German and Korean workshop participants visited the Hannover Messe, starting with a guided tour of the Siemens booth that provided insights into smart manufacturing solutions and the industrial metaverse. Afterwards, all participants visited the Plattform Industrie 4.0 booth, where selected demonstrators from the platform’s Manufacturing-X initiative where shown. The visit to the Hannover Messe concluded with a stop at the Fraunhofer Society booth, where research results from different Fraunhofer Institutes, such as the demonstration of mixed reality in industrial manufacturing, were presented.

The meeting in Ditzingen began with a tour of TRUMPF’s visitor center that provided insights into TRUMPF’s smart factory solutions. After a short coffee break, German and Korean partners continued their technical discussions from Hannover with a focus on combining the Korean solution for securing local interfaces of production systems with the German solution for securing the data connection to remotely operated production systems. The partners discussed the interfaces and necessary steps to combine both projects’ demonstrators.
